About
John McCarthy is an award-winning composer for film and television. His music is a hybrid of ‘acoustical and electronic’ elements, fusing both worlds in his score. He has an extensive background in classical, jazz, rock and world music.
John won the 2009 Genie Award (Canadian Academy Award) for Best Original Score for the feature film “THE STONE ANGEL” directed by Kari Skogland. He also won the 2001 Dale Melbourne Award for Excellence in Music in a Feature Film at the Marco Island Film Festival for the film “DISCHORD”, and two Gemini nominations for Best Original Music for a Dramatic Series “DUE SOUTH” directed by Academy Award winner Paul Haggis.
His first film, “LOVE AND HUMAN REMAINS” was directed by Academy Award winner Denys Arcand. John scored the David Shore / Vince Gilligan CBS show “BATTLE CREEK", the NBC show “MY OWN WORST ENEMY” starring Christian Slater, the FOX show “JONNY ZERO” directed by Scott Gemmill, Ralph Bakshi’s “SPICY CITY” for HBO and additional music for the NBC show “STUDIO ON THE SUNSET STRIP” and Showtimes hit television series “SHAMELESS".
More recently scoring the Milla Jovovich starring film “FACES IN THE CROWD” and the Shudder horror hit “ANYTHING FOR JACKSON” directed Justin G. Dyck.
